Sustainability and circular fashionFrom surplus uniforms to a national movement.
Operation Upcycle. A national initiative with Ramco UK, transforming surplus military textiles into sustainable fashion with purpose.
Sinarchie Media is Operation Upcycle's ongoing media partner, providing strategy, video production and photography.
Where they were
Where they were before we started.
Operation Upcycle began with a powerful idea. Ramco was already processing significant volumes of surplus military textiles, but not everything could be reused or resold in its original form. The question was how this material could be given another purpose rather than becoming waste. The concept had the potential to connect sustainability, circular fashion, education, military heritage, rehabilitation and veteran support. But with so many different elements involved, the story needed clarity.
The objective
The objective was to turn a new concept into a story people could understand and get behind. We needed to establish what Operation Upcycle stood for, communicate why it mattered and create content capable of taking audiences on the journey as the initiative developed. The project also had commercial ambitions. Operation Upcycle needed to demonstrate that surplus military textiles could become desirable products with genuine commercial potential, creating a credible route towards retail while delivering wider social impact.
What we did
Our strategy started with one central idea: transformation. That story allowed us to connect the different areas of Operation Upcycle under one recognisable narrative, including surplus textiles, fashion students, veterans, charities, rehabilitation, manufacturing and ultimately retail. Rather than waiting until the project was finished before telling the story, we built a strategy around documenting the journey as it happened. The prototypes, partnerships, challenges, conversations and people involved all became part of the content. Working alongside Ramco and its partners, we have supported campaign ideation, messaging, content strategy, social media, filming plans, interview direction, photography and ongoing project communications.
What happened
What began as an idea around surplus material has developed into a clearly positioned initiative involving recognised national partners and a growing collection of products, prototypes and original content. The University of Southampton's Winchester School of Art has joined as an academic and creative partner, giving fashion students the opportunity to explore new uses for surplus military textiles. Help for Heroes has also been secured as the initiative's national charity partner. This is an ongoing project, and the next stage is about turning attention into evidence.
Hands on, responsive and supportive through every step of the way.
